Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is recognized by many global societies, including the World Health Organization as a viable way to treat allergies without injections. This method has been used in clinical practice and tested in research studies for the last 30 years— several trials confirm the safety and efficacy of this treatment. Sublingual immunotherapy has also been growing in the US over the past decade. A survey sent to allergists in 2018 showed that 74% use SLIT treatment compared to 6% in 2007.
